Our Story

Many years ago, the vibrant city of Hong Kong welcomed an adventurous homeschool family from South Africa. Among them was Danielle Jonsson, an experienced mother who had successfully homeschooled her children for years. As they settled into their new surroundings, Danielle quickly observed that Hong Kong lacked a conducive environment for homeschooling. Families were struggling, navigating a maze of regulations and resources that seemed sparse and fragmented.

Determined to make a difference, Danielle reached out to Dr. Vivien Lai, a renowned figure in the homeschooling community who had successfully homeschooled her own daughter through to university. Dr. Lai’s journey had been marked by dedication, resilience, and a passion for personalized education. Her expertise and nurturing approach had not only led her daughter to academic success but had also inspired many others.

In early October 2023, when Danielle and Dr. Lai connected, it was as if two kindred spirits had found each other. They shared stories, challenges, and visions for the future of homeschooling in Hong Kong. Danielle was deeply impressed by Dr. Lai's achievements and her unwavering commitment to education.

Recognizing the need for strong leadership in the homeschooling community, Danielle proposed that Dr. Lai take on the role of the homeschool leader in Hong Kong. Dr. Lai, moved by Danielle's faith in her and motivated by the potential to make a meaningful impact, accepted the challenge.

With her leadership and passion, Dr. Lai invited experienced homeschool educators from around the world, including professors from different countries, to share their insights at the Homeschool Education Talk (HET). She bridged local homeschooling families through social media and personal connections, creating a supportive network.

In her determination, Dr. Lai stated, "We garner international support from professors, homeschool leaders, educators, and other key figures, along with local backing, as they embrace our vision of empowering Hong Kong to develop a happier, more inclusive, and adaptive international education system. This vision aims to benefit generations to come."
